Georgina Brett Chinnery is the creator behind Bombarock, a business specialising in bespoke upholstered furniture and interior accessories.
Initially working in fabrics with her signature style of upholstery using skulls and roses, Georgina currently works in leather, interpreting classical techniques of leather decoration creating contemporary pieces retaining a flavour of past luxury.
After training at Art College Georgina's work advanced with traditional upholstery skills and decorative leather techniques. Today her work has a more artisan approach, Georgina has discovered leather, the ideal medium to express her creativity, working sculpturally yet producing functional and beautiful pieces which work both in contemporary and traditional interiors.
The use of leather preceded textiles by way of being worn as a garment. Later during the Renaissance period leather was highly decorative in its use for furniture and wall hangings where it was only seen in the higher end of society. Leather decoration includes gilding, carving, embossing, mosaic, modelling, stamped and punched leather and is thought to have been brought to Spain by the Moorish conquerers in the 8th century.
The craft of leather decoration today heralds these ancient ways of working, it is a lengthy process but one which has a magnificent outcome, producing truly unique pieces which will last a lifetime.
Bombarock showed a new collection of hand carved leather furniture and accessories at Collect 2011 held at The Saatchi Gallery in May and has worked with a variety of clients including Liberty, ITV1, fashion boutiques and private commissions.
These techniques may be applied to all manner of items or integrated in to an interior scheme on a small or large scale.
